The LOVE of God

As we were hiking under the beautiful California sky, Rachel and I were singing some of our favorite hymns. (Singing and hiking is not as easy as it used to be....better start adhering to my exercise program!) We looked up at the vast expanse of sky, which, in our neck of the woods is all clouds as of yet, and were reminded of our family's chosen homeschool hymn. I would love to share the words here - we are especially appreciative of the truth of the third verse.

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Refrain

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Refrain

  2. Good Morning Keri!

    How wonderful it is to take the time to appreciate the beauty that God gives us...perhaps this is one of that greatest sadness of all...that we get too busy to find contentment in His glory.

    Wishing you all a blessed day,
    Laura

  5. Oh thank you for sharing those words, I love that song!!!

    I remember the first time I heard it, a pastor was quoting it in his sermon we were listening to on the radio, in our truck. Driving under a beautiful blue sky at the moment he read this, was very touching, a word picture given in the song, w/ a physical picture to measure the words by.

    Happy hiking to you and yours!

  6. Hi Keri -
    Isn't it wonderful to spend time glorifying God for His beautiful creation! And to spend time meditating on His love through song. What a wonderful song to have for your homeschooling.

    Thank you so much for the comments on my blogs and on my children's blogs. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read them all and encourage us with comments! Your daughters wrote a beautiful comment on Dolly's blog - they sound like very precious girls! :)

    The Lord bless you and your family!
    In Christ,
    Clara
