Make it Monday

Lifeinmyhousefulofboys

Well, I haven't been so productive getting things completed in a timely manner...but, finally I have a new item finished for today.
This capelet was made for a 7 year old birthday girl. Madeline is modelling it for me.

Austentatious Crochet: 36 Contemporary Designs from the World of Jane Austen

This pattern is called the "Off to Bath Capelet" and is a quick fun project. My daughter Grace (12 years old) has made one already and is working on another! My older daughters are thinking to make the pattern larger because it is so charming...and my girls wear things like this :) (shouldn't be too difficult of a modification)

I'm linking w/ Kirsteen for Make it Monday! AND I'd love to see what you are making! If you can, please join us!

We had the privilege of attending a bridal shower on Saturday, so I made these kitchen cloths for the bride.
Just Valentine's/Spring colors since I wasn't certain of her kitchen theme.
Hope you all have a LOVEly week! Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, though this is supposed to be a "TaDa" today...I did not quite finish the project. I still need to make the cording and pom poms that go at the top of the slippers.  It is a bit of a disappointment that I somehow managed to make these two slippers not matching....they did not felt the same and one is quite a bit...roomier than the other...I may try to remedy the situation, but as soon as I get the cording and pom poms finished this project will go on the back burner for a bit. (Ah...well, famous last words....I also would like to try to apply a "slip proofing" on the bottom of each of the slippers I have made....will let you know if that happens and how I like the product I chose.)

We (my girls and I) all really like this pattern - the error is definately mine, not the pattern (as the first pair I made came out just fine!)

Some Finished Projects...

Though I've made several of these soccer balls, this is the first one that will stay at our house. Grace and I have both made these for some of her soccer teammates' birthdays. All of my children think they are wonderful....they are just a great size and cushy and cozy. And the colors can be anything you like. The colors in this one are definately Grace-like. She is a ray of sunshine - quite a bright spot in our family!

This is my second official Keri-On sized Keri-on.

The shape is a pattern from Marta McCall. I am not as proficient a knitter yet to do all of the colors in the pattern.  Maybe someday...

My first Keri-On still isn't lined.... I realized it wasn't as daunting of a job as I'd imagined...but now I need to find the right fabric. Nothing seems to tickle my fancy for lining this bag.

I really enjoy making felted bags. The first felted bag I made was a Christmas purse for my mom. I made Sarah a purse using the same pattern, but in spring colors. It is also very fun to make. It is a pattern from Nicky Epstein's Book.

And some unfinished projects (not counting my housework!)...

And I'm thinkin that little bird may end up being a latch on the Keri-On bag....yep, I think that'll happen. The rest of those little flowery blocks can grow up to be another soccer ball or even a blanket...not certain yet....I'll probably just keep making more until I decide.

Hope you have a masterpiece of a day!

True Contentment

My husband and I were listening to this song yesterday....and were (again) struck by the reality of the completeness we have in Christ. The amazing fulfillment in Him. We just need to remember to live in that knowledge!  Enjoy!***********************************************************************************
At the moment, half of our house has no flooring...just sub floors. Three years ago, we were able to build an addition on to our home - a great blessing. But at this point, the flooring is not yet in. I am experimenting w/ making some rugs for the stairs when they are finished. I would like to have wood on the steps, but because of the slippery factor and because there is a big window at the bottom of the stairs....we need to have some traction. This is my first attempt...I crocheted the rug and then felted it.  We all like it, but I'll have to decide if I want to make 14 of them, or if a simpler design will work for the stairs. I think I have lots of time to decide or create for that matter. But it's fun to have a working plan.

Baby Girl in Japan

A week ago Sunday, a friend at church asked me to crochet a baby blanket for a niece who was pregnant with a little girl. I love to crochet or knit for babies....even babies that I do not know. I have the opportunity to pray for them while I am stitching away. Incidentally, this little girl and her family live in Japan. The earthquake happened the following Friday. As of Sunday, the baby had not yet been born - the parents were fine. I believe that they live within proximity of the nuclear power plants.

So many people there......within the catastrophe zone....people with a lot of needs...

I finished the blanket yesterday

But I think the prayer for that little girl and the country she is in, will continue for quite some time.

Official Keri–On sized Keri-on to Keri-on about

We were taking a crazy trip….we left at 5:45am Sunday 14 November, drove 10 hours, attended 50th birthday party for Gregg’s sister, checked out the Golden Gate Bridge, back to Grandma Nancy’s to sleep, woke to a 70 degree morning, visited the cemetery where Gregg’s father is buried, visited w/ Aunt Susanna for 30 minutes, hopped back in the car, drove for 10 hours, met Sarah and company at the car rental place and were back home by 10pm on Monday evening. It was a crazy and amazing thing to do! Wouldn’t have missed it!

And, by my side,.............

I took along my first official Keri-On sized Keri-On….I love this satchel because it was so very much fun to make! You know, the result of me spending lots of time doing something I really enjoy! – and most likely NOT doing what I should have been doing!

I will take you for a tour,

It can hold two M&M's,
one at a time......

The lining is not in yet,…probably won’t be until after Christmas!

But it is ready to be packed and wisked off on another advernture!

Muffatees

My favorite sweatshirt has “thumb holes”. I love it because when I’m out walking or hiking, I can stick my thumbs in the holes that have formed between the cuff and the sleeve of the shirt and keep the sleeves pulled snuggly down onto my hands. I prefer this to gloves or mittens because my hands get too hot w/ those options and I can actually do more things w/out having to remove my gloves. So, imagine my happy surprise when these funny looking “fingerless gloves” arrived on the scene! (Well, actually, Sarah and James were both given pairs as part of their Ft. Vancouver costumes – so perhaps it is better stated REarrived on the scene! But, I digress…..) So, for Christmas, I crocheted pairs of sweet little muffatees for all of my girls! Rachel was even able to play her cello w/ them on! If you're wondering, I did make two little purple muffatees.....They are quick to make (and apparently to lose as well!) and I think they are rather pretty!  Perhaps you’ll find some in your stocking some day!

Keri On's for Christmas

The Saturday after Thanksgiving we traditionally go and cut down our Christmas tree. We cut it down and the children tow it to the car. We have pictures every year of this little trek...Fun to see the passing of time in pictures like that! A tradition that will continue to be Keried--On! We will decorate the tree this evening and sip hot apple cider (that we pressed ourselves a few weeks ago) and eat pop corn. We are excited to have this lovely season approaching!
The other Christmas Keri On that caught my attention this week came for a visit w/ my parents. Mom and dad stopped by today, and mom was carrying the Christmas purse that I gave her for her birthday. I had E take a picture for the blog! It makes me smile! So, here is the first crocheted creation to be Keried--On!
